If your favourite pastime also is fly fishing, come stay with us at The Ferry Bed and Breakfast Fishing lodge near Queenstown. Should you decide to stay at The Ferry Bed and Breakfast, I can help with local knowledge, provide rods reels and lines free of charge, and work permitting, offer a guiding service. (if you book in advance I can arrange my time to suit) If I am unable to take you, I can recommend other guides.

Kevin and Buckley contemplating the fishing.. With my local knowledge of the Queenstown area, I'd be happy to take you fly fishing to some of my favourite spots in and around Queenstown and the Southern Lakes region. I’m happy to guide on the rivers and lakes and to provide tuition for fly fishing if required. I cater for all tastes ~ i.e. Fly Fishing, Spin Fishing, Harling or Trolling.

New Zealand is one of the world's most renowned trout fishing destination, and the area in and around Queenstown here in Central Otago New Zealand is blessed with many diverse fishing locations, some closer than others. Fisheries include small inland lakes set in magnificent mountain scenery. High country dams such as Poolburn, a pleasant two hour drive from Queenstown and home to the spectacular 'Golden' Brown Trout which get their incredible colour from eating fresh water lobsters (locally known as yabbies). This can be a superb trip in the summer when Cicadas are on the wing. Then there are massive lakes like the stunningly clear, cold but beautiful Lake Wakatipu, New Zealand's third largest Lake. Lake Wakatipu situated right here in Queenstown is wonderful for Rock Hopping Fly Fishing or Harling, close to the rocks on "Flycatcher" my superbly adapted 15' aluminium fishing machine. On a clear sunny day it is possible to see 30ft down through the crystal clear waters of Lake Wakatipu

Another delightful way to fish on any of the numerous lakes around Queenstown, again from my boat flycatcher, is with an electric outboard motor. We can silently cruise the shallow water right up to the tree line, which is inaccessible to foot anglers. Fly fishing like this is very satisfying; so quiet, peaceful and relaxing, spotting fish as we go, or just fishing blind in and out of the drop off, tempting those brown trout up from the depths of the clear waters.

Rivers nearby include The Lochy, Queenstowns closest river. It is a great Rainbow Trout fishery. The Mataura, one of the best brown trout fisheries in New Zealand is only a two hour drive from Queenstown. The delightful Caples river is nestled in the magnificent Caples Valley. This river is great for a two day trip staying over night in the Mid Caples Hut, and requires a moderate level of fitness. A one day visit is possible but makes for a very full day ~ the caples is about two hours from Queenstown.

Then there is the Jewel in the Crown, the Greenstown River, best accessed by helicopter. Full Season Licences are required for both the Caples and The Greenstone. The lakes and streams of Central Otago offer some of the best Fishing in New Zealand. I can tailor a fly fishing experience to suit you.

There are many other attractions in this unique part of the world so why not combine your holiday with a little fishing whilst staying at the 'Ferry Hotel B&B Guesthouse, accommodation between Queenstown & Arrowtown.

Of course I offer special reduced guiding rates for our resident guests!

One of the advantages of staying at The Ferry Bed and Breakfast Lodge for your Queenstown fishing accommodation is that there is so much for wives or partners to do in Queenstown. While you're off fly fishing, my wife Glenys can organize all sorts of trips and excursions for the girls ~ they won’t even know you've gone fly fishing.
